Full process breakdown
I usually sketch on separate areas so I'm not locked in to where everything is placed.
Deciding where everything should be
Inking
Solid colours so I can separate everything and get a good view on how everything layers. Also makes it easier for clipping masks later.
I thought the image wasn't as crowded as I wanted it to be, with the nature of Kobolds I wanted them almost falling over each other so I added more in the background.
Sketching of the background, I never normally do background or keep them simple but I wanted this piece to be more then just a character showcase and feel more complete.
Lowered the opacity of the sketch and laid down some solid lines on top.
Finished inking the background.
I really like purple and wanted the background to have a purple tone to it.
Base colours of the characters.
Base colours of the background
First layer of shadows, trying to push the purple through.
Second, deeper shadows.
Highlights of the characters.
Sun rays, I like how the sun rays follow the flow of motion with the charging tribe.
